The health and happiness of the guide-dogs-in-training was one of our client’s top priorities when initiating the CNIB Canine Campus project. In addition, functionality and inclusiveness were key requirements. To achieve this, much research was conducted during the schematic design and design development phases to inform design direction. The project features larger than typical glass kennel enclosures that have ample access to natural light and surrounding view of farmlands. Radiant heated floors, dog friendly finishes, and automated doggy doors (activated by dog collars) were incorporated into the kennels to create a comfortable environment. An open concept workspace adjoins to the kennel area, allowing for playful interactions throughout the day. In addition, an on-site clinic is available to support the health of the dogs.
